Lending at a glance

The Lending department ensures disbursement of loans, scholarships and bursaries to successful applicants.  Since 1974 the government advances loans to students in public universities in Kenya only. However, with more students being admitted in private universities the demand for university education has  increased despite the limited admissions in public universities.

In 2002, the Board extended her loans to students enrolled for degree programmes in private universities and are recognized by the Commission for University Education. However other students preferred to proceed to public university under the self-sponsorship programmes which again saw the Board extend her wings to cushion the needy students yet bright by giving them loans in 2008.

In the quest to encourage enrollment in technical colleges, the Ministry of Higher Education Science and Technology handed over the TVET bursaries in 2012. Below are graphs showing the loans awarded and the amounts of money in the academic year 2013-2014.
