The Higher Education Loans Board hereby reminds all employers that they are required by law [HELB ACT CAP 213A] to inform the Board in writing within three months of employment of any University graduate. Upon confirmation by the Board that such a person so employed is a loanee, they will be expected to deduct from the wages or remuneration of the loanee, the amount of any loan as instructed by the Board.
Further the Board wishes to advise employers that failure to comply attracts a penalty of Kshs. 3,000.00 for each month per University graduate payable by the employer as per section 17 (2) of the HELB ACT. Our inspectors shall be carrying out countrywide inspections to ascertain compliance to the HELB ACT as stipulated in section 23 of HELB ACT.
