ABSA
This is a Barclays Bank of Kenya program which provides financial support for bright but needy university students in partnership with the Higher Education’s Loans Board (HELB). Each student receives tuition and accommodation fees, laptop purchase and upkeep money that amounts to Ksh. 150, 000.
This program is intended to impact the lives of young Kenyans who excel academically but are financially disadvantaged. It supports young people, who otherwise would not be able to pay university fees, access quality education and therefore contribute positively to the growth of Kenya’s economy. The Scholarship primarily benefits students who are orphans or are from single parent households and the funds are equally distributed among the intended beneficiaries.
To drive diversity and inclusion, beneficiaries have a 50:50 gender split and that at least 4 percent of the beneficiaries are persons living with disabilities. Beneficiaries are drawn from all the 47 counties.
The scholarship funds Twenty (20) students per year for total tenure of study. Only government sponsored students have access to the scholarship.
